Red Raiders Lending Libraries

The Red Raiders Lending Libraries is a non-profit literacy program that provides Fitchburg Public School students with access to fun, enjoyable books, promoting independent reading for all students, Pre-K—8th grade.  Students are able to choose their own books to borrow with no penalty if the books are not returned. Reading independently is linked to vocabulary growth, increased comprehension, and verbal fluency. Children who read independently become better readers, score higher on achievement testing in all subjects, and have greater content knowledge.  By providing books to these students, we advance learning, improve reading, language skills, encourage imagination, and provide constructive entertainment. (Cullinan, Bernice 2000)
