The
Fitchburg Public School System serves approximately
6000 students in grades Pre K-12.


A
new 38 million dollar high school opened in
August 2000.
The
city of Fitchburg is a culturally diverse community
of approximately 40,000 residents located in
Central Massachusetts.
The
new 235,000 sq. ft. Fitchburg High School accommodates
1,400 students. The site provides a quiet, rural
setting for a high school with beautiful panoramic
views to the east, wetlands and hilly terrain
to the south, and natural wooded buffers to
the west. There are 72 acres for school and
community use, which include athletic facilities,
such as baseball and softball fields, soccer
and field hockey fields, cross country trails,
and tennis courts. FHS houses a 30,000 square
foot community athletic center, complete with
indoor track, four multi-purpose courts, seating
for 1,500, weight room and aerobics area, and
physical therapy areas. Included in the facility
is a 750-seat auditorium and a state-of-the-art
library/media center. |

Mission Statement
The
mission of the Fitchburg Public Schools is to
provide coordinated curricular and extracurricular
experiences that inspire students to develop
the academic, intellectual, creative, technological,
and social skills necessary to work and to participate
in our democratic society. Highly qualified
educators who motivate and support students
in achieving the high standards of literacy
and numeracy as described in the Massachusetts
Curriculum Frameworks will staff our schools.
Teachers, administrators, and parents will collaborate
to insure the effectiveness of learning experiences
that are differentiated to meet a variety of
student learning styles, needs, and interests.
All members of the school community will focus
on achieving academic excellence through curricula
that promote inquiry and stimulate curiosity
